She finished third, behind Ashton and winning Liberal candidate (and North of 60 star) Tina Keeper.
Once into northern Manitoba (home to only one riding - Churchill), the NDP had held it for many years under Bev Desjarlais, but she lost the nomination in 2006 and ran unsuccessfully as an independent; the Liberals were able to pick up Churchill with star candidate Tina Keeper.
In April 2005, Mercredi announced he would challenge Bev Desjarlais for the New Democratic Party nomination in the riding of Churchill for the next federal election, but he later withdrew his candidacy.
