Sorensen played guitar and aspired to be a musician from a young age, and eventually studied acting—first with Keith Johnstone at the University of Calgary, and later in Los Angeles with Milton Katselas at the famed Beverly Hills Playhouse.
After moving to the United States at the age of 18, Kitamura studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse for five years.
After graduating from Harvard University Barton relocated to Los Angeles and began his studies as an actor at the Beverly Hills Playhouse (BHP).
He made short films with a camera he received as a gift, and later studied acting and directing at South Coast Repertory and Milton Katselas' Beverly Hills Playhouse.
