Arthur Louis Aaron

Located on a roundabout on the northern edge of the city centre, close to the West Yorkshire Playhouse, the statue of Aaron was unveiled on 24 March 2001 by Malcolm Mitchem, the last survivor of the aircraft.

Christopher Pizzey

He has also appeared in the BBC soap EastEnders as the character of Andy in a 2006 episode and the Roman Mysteries episode of The Pirates of Pompeii (2007) as the character of Actius for one episode along with an appearance in the BBC daytime drama Doctors in May 2007 as well as appearing in a stage production of Wind in the Willows at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds as Mole.

Michael Attenborough

Previously, he was associate director of the Mercury Theatre Colchester 1972-74, the Leeds Playhouse (now West Yorkshire Playhouse) 1974 to 1979, the Young Vic 1979 to 1980, then artistic director of the Palace Theatre, Watford, 1980 to 1984, artistic director of Hampstead Theatre 1984 to 1989 and principal associate director of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 1990 to 2002.

Sheema Mukherjee

In 2005, she composed the music for the West Yorkshire Playhouse productions Gluey and the Lion and Non-Contact Time.

TAG Theatre Company

Since then a number of high-profile directors have worked for the company, including Ian Wooldridge (1978-1984), Ian Brown (1984-1988) now at West Yorkshire Playhouse, Alan Lyddiard who left TAG to become Artistic Director of Northern Stage Ensemble in Newcastle(1988-1992), and Tony Graham, now at the Unicorn Theatre in London (1992-1997).

West Yorkshire Playhouse

A typical recent season (Autumn-Winter 2007) included: Casanova by Carol Ann Duffy and Told By An Idiot, with Lyric Hammersmith; a stage adaptation of Don Quixote; Brief Encounter with Kneehigh Theatre and Birmingham Repertory Theatre; Rough Crossings adapted by Caryl Phillips from Simon Schama's book; Salonika, first performed at the Royal Court Theatre in 1982.

The theatre was home to the original version of the musical Spend Spend Spend, the story of the life of Viv Nicholson, the 1961 famous Pools winner and author of the book of the same name.

Bower's theatre credits include Andy in Brassed Off Royal National Theatre, Heracles in Simon Armitage's adaptation of Euripides classic, Mr Heracles West Yorkshire Playhouse, Steve In Celebration Chichester, Dan in Hotel in Amsterdam Donmar Warehouse, he played opposite John Simm in Elling at the Trafalgar Studios, Lovbourg in Hedda Gate Theatre.

The Misanthrope

The Grouch, a more modern verse version of The Misanthrope by Ranjit Bolt was first performed at West Yorkshire Playhouse in February 2008.
