Sir Edward Albert Gait KCSI CIE (1863–1950) was an administrator in the Indian Civil Service who rose to serve as Lieutenant-Governor of the British Raj Province known as Bihar and Orissa.
Noel Irwin was the eldest son of William Stuart Irwin of Motihari, Bihar and Orissa, India.
He succeeded his half brother, Zain-ud-Din Ali Khan after his death on August 6, 1821 as the Nawab Nazim of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa under the titles of Baeran ul-Mulk (Administrator of the country), Ihtisham ud-Daulah (Dignifier of the country), Walla Jah (Of High Rank) and Nahabat Jang (Horror in War).
It is located about half a km South-East of Mahimapur (modern Nashipur), a town in West Bengal, India just north of Murshidabad, the capital of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa during the reign of the Nawabs of Murshidabad.
However, the said new province of Bihar and Orissa was under the jurisdiction of Calcutta High Court.
