In the year 1714, Ibrahim Khan the Mughal Faujdar of Ghoraghat and Dhaka once again defeated Yanja Narayan an ally of Druk Rabgye the ruler of Bhutan and consolidated territories for the Mughal Empire in Koch Bihar particularly at Karjihat, Kakina and Fatehpur Chakla.

Aided by the Bhutanese, Yajna Narayan fought the Mughals at Patgram but was defeated.

Due to this proximity, the Royal Family embraced westernization and this resulted in the family enjoying an ascendancy in British official circles, as well as in London society.

Diwan Deo was the hereditary title borne by the Chief Minister of Cooch, held by a junior branch of the ruling Narayan dynasty.
