Birchwood, Lincolnshire

Birchwood used to hold an old airfield from World War Two, RAF Skellingthorpe, which hosted No. 50 Squadron and No. 61 Squadron, both of which were bomber squadrons, equipped with such planes as the Avro Lancaster.

Ski manufacturing techniques

Skis traditionally were hand-carved out of a single piece of hardwood such as Hickory, Birchwood or Ash.


Chugiak, Anchorage

Chugiak is also the home of the "Birchwood Shooting & Recreational Park", (adjacent to the Birchwood Airport), the largest Rifle, pistol, and shotgun range facility in the State of Alaska.

Ohai

In 1934, this line was further extended beyond Ohai to Birchwood, but the terminus had reverted to Ohai by the time the line was incorporated into the national rail network in 1990.
