To the south is one of the largest lakes in Denmark, Furesøen.

Flemming Kofod-Svendsen (born 21 March 1944 in Aakirkeby) is an ordained minister in the Lutheran Church of Denmark (parish priest in Birkerød 1976-2011) and a Danish politician representing the Christian People's Party.
The estate, which covered a large area (the present day municipalities of Hørsholm, Karlebo, Birkerød and a part of Allerød) was called the Noble Estate of Hørsholm (adelsgodset Hørsholm), and was endowed to various noblemen and members of the royal court.
In 1985, the headquarters of the Royal Life Guard moved to Høvelte Barracks, located between Allerød and Birkerød north of Copenhagen.
