During the 1960s, he became the first black member of the Birmingham City Council.

LMS Princess Coronation Class 6229 Duchess of Hamilton

The third preserved member of the class 6235 City of Birmingham was donated by British Railways to Birmingham City Council for preservation within the Birmingham Industrial Museum.


Birmingham Youth Theatre

The company was funded by Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Arts for the purpose of giving 16 to 23 year olds from the wider local community access to drama and the theatre arts.

Eric James Eames

A former steam engine driver, Eames represented the city's Small Heath ward on Birmingham City Council from 1949-1992, without break.

Punch Records

From this, Birmingham City Council became involved and have since used Punch for various events including a roadshow in Centenary Square during Birmingham's European Capital of Culture 2008 bid.

Salma Yaqoob

At a Birmingham City Council meeting in early February 2011, Yaqoob and another Respect party councillor, Mohammed Ishtiaq, sat with their arms folded and refused to participate in a standing ovation at a meeting at which Britain's most highly decorated serving marine and Afghanistan veteran Lance Corporal Matthew Croucher, GC, RMR was a guest.

Sheldon, West Midlands

As of 2005, the three councillors representing Sheldon Ward on Birmingham City Council are Sue Anderson, Paul Tilsley and Mike Ward, all of the Liberal Democrat Party.

University College Birmingham

The university was originally founded as part of Birmingham's Municipal Technical School (predecessor of Aston University) in the 19th century, but became a separate College of Bakery, Catering, Domestic Science and Associated Studies (later Birmingham College of Food and Domestic Arts) under the control of Birmingham City Council in 1957.

Wychall Reservoir

Now defunct as a reservoir it has been adopted by Birmingham City Council, along with the nearby Merecroft Pool, as a Local Nature Reserve.
