7 unusual facts about Blundell Park

Barry Conlon

Conlon's release to Chesterfield had been slightly criticised by some supporters because of the fact he was the Grimsby's current seasonal top goalscorer, and was seemingly the only proven goal scorer in the ranks at Blundell Park.

Blundell Park

The Barrett's itself was eventually demolished in 1980 and was replaced with a two tier stand paid for by the fish processing firm Findus.

Since the mid-1990s the club has been pursuing a movement to a new ground on the western outskirts of Grimsby at Great Coates, adjacent to the A180 dual carriageway.

In 1980 the ground was renovated again, the Main Stand the ground's only original stand was made an all-seater, and the Barrett's stand which was built in 1925 was demolished and replaced the two tier Findus stand, which now became the ground's largest stand.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro

Two days later, on 4 December 2008 he was offered and subsequently signed a 18-month contract keeping him at Blundell Park until the end of the 2009–10 season.

Marcel Cas

This was something that unsettled Cas who eventually fell out with Groves, thus paving the way for his departure from Blundell Park in January 2004.

Spencer Weir-Daley

Rumours circulated of an impending move to Grimsby Town, however in a fans forum on 18 July 2011, joint-managers Paul Hurst and Rob Scott who managed Weir-Daley at Boston, commented that they had no interest in bringing him to Blundell Park.

Iffy Onuora

After a reasonable month with Grimsby, Onuora made his move to Blundell Park a permanent one, with the club pairing him up front with Michael Boulding in the absence of the injured Phil Jevons.
