Raucher was subsequently commissioned to write the novelization and screenplay for Ode to Billie Joe based on the song by Bobbie Gentry.
He then got the idea of using the title of a popular song as a movie title, acquiring the rights to the Bobbie Gentry hit song and producing Ode to Billy Joe (1976).
