In 770, Bockenheim had its first documentary mention in the Lorsch codex.
Among Frankfurt's residents, the tower is colloquially known as the "Ginnemer Spaschel" (dialect of Frankfurt for "The Ginnheimer Asparagus", or "Ginnheimer Spargel" in standard German), even though it is located in the Bockenheim district rather than close-by Ginnheim.
Zeilsheim is linked by bus to the observation tower in Bockenheim, to Griesheim and to Niederrad, as well as by regional bus lines to Schwalbach am Taunus und Hofheim.
