At this point the A229, prior to the 1990s, followed a route south of Hawkhurst, following the course of a Roman Road passing to the west of Bodiam and through Cripp's Corner and Sedlescombe before meeting the A21 just south of the River Brede.
It is named after Bodiam Castle in England and was formerly known as Mandy’s Farm.
Cubitt purchased his estate in Bodiam, East Sussex, from local farmer Thomas Levett, descendant of an old Sussex family and owner of Court Lodge Farm, for £1,039 on August 4, 1862.
It is included here since for part of its journey near Bodiam it forms the boundary between Kent and East Sussex.
In March 2005, Synchronica was acquired by AIM listed infrastructure consultancy DAT Group, headquartered in the village of Bodiam in East Sussex.

His son, John Tufton, 2nd Earl of Thanet, inherited Nicholas's property on his father's death in 1631; it was John Tufton who reunited possession of castle and manor when he bought Bodiam Castle in 1639.
The railway van that conveyed Edith Cavell's remains from Dover to London is kept as a memorial and is usually open to view at Bodiam railway station.
On the north bank of the river is Bodiam Castle, built soon after 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge.
