He works in the field of small-scale printings and the form of Ex-libris.
The eldest son of Maurice Baquoy, he engraved book-plates after the designs of Eisen, Gravelot, Moreau, and others, among which are a set of vignettes for the French translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses, published by Basan, which are executed in a finished style, and a set of plates, after Jean-Baptiste Oudry, for the Fables of La Fontaine.
It is also of interest "The Luttrell Psalter", a famous medieval manuscript dated by the 14th century, contains inside its binding an armorial bookplate of Thomas Weld (1750–1810) of Lulworth Castle, one of the book's owners, and the motto on the plate's ribbon reads "nil sine numine".
Collections of bookplates designed, etched, and engraved by Sidney Lawton Smith are held in the Lewis Stark Bookplate Collection at the University of New Hampshire, and the William Augustus Brewer Bookplate Collection at the University of Delaware.
