Momai Tamuli Borbarua rose from a bondsman through the ranks to become the first Borbarua under Prataap Singha.

The Borbarua and the Borphukan had military and judicial responsibilities, and they were aided by two separate councils (sora) of Phukans.

Under the same king, the offices of the Borphukan, and the Borbarua were established along with other smaller offices.
The region to the east of Kaliabor was governed by the Borbarua.
Udayaditya Singha was murdered through the machinations of Debera Borbarua, who then inaugurated a veritable reign of terror, killing rival princes or mutilating their limbs, doing away with his rivals and opponents, and dismissing or appointing officers at will.
Ragh Neog became the Borbarua, a kanri paik became the Borphukan and two common Ahoms became the Gohains at Sadiya and Marangi.
The administration was looked after by Bakatial Gendhela Borbarua, renamed Kirti Chandra Borbarua after the Manipur expedition (see below).

In November, 1768 an army of ten thousand soldiers led by Kirtichandra Borbarua was dispatched this time via Raha and the Kachari kingdom accompanied by Jai Singh.

On hearing this the king dispatched the army led by the Borbarua to Raha.

This period saw the ruthless power grab of Debera Borbarua and Laluksola Borphukan's abandonment of Guwahati and oppression via Sulikphaa Lora Roja.

Gobar Raja was the king for only 20 days and was executed after the fall of Debera Borbarua at the hands of the forces of Atan Burhagohain.
