On October 15, 2008, retired chairman and CEO Albert Boscov confirmed earlier rumors by submitting a bid to reacquire the company, in partnership with his brother-in-law Edwin Lakin (father of then CEO Kenneth Lakin).
However, the opening of Boscov's and Christmas Tree Shops in 1998 rejuvenated the mall, and the 2007 redesign increased traffic even further to the point where it rivals Crossgates Mall.
The fortunes of the mall changed for the better in October 1998 with the opening of Boscov's, which took over the space of the old Clover location.
However, officials in the Town of Clifton Park, New York convinced Boscov's to build a store at Clifton Park Center instead.
