Bothy

The most famous person to live in a bothy of this type was Percy Thrower when he worked in the Royal gardens.

They are particularly common in the Scottish Highlands (but related buildings can be found around the world, e.g. in the Nordic countries there are wilderness huts).

The old church gradually fell into ruin, though there are plans to give it a new use, as a bothy on the Greensand Ridge walk.

Cornkister

While there is some overlap with the bothy ballads, in that they both often have the topic of farm life in the Northeast of Scotland, and that singers of one will generally sing the other, there is a difference in that the cornkister was more likely to be written for the music hall or for recording purposes, with the Beltona record label in particular recording many pieces.
