Bourtreehill

A 'Bour Tree' is an alternative name for the Common Elder tree, Sambucus nigra, often found in the older and more biodiverse local woodlands.

The Irvine New Town Trail is a cycle and pedestrian route which passes through Bourtreehill, giving relatively 'car free' access to Girdle Toll, Eglinton Country Park, Broomlands, Springside, Kilmarnock and beyond.

Bourtreehill House

Bourtreehill House (now destroyed) and the enclosed land on which it was built form the original estate of Bourtreehill.

At the same time, the gardener employed by Robert Hamilton of Bourtreehill, was directly responsible for much of the landscaping and decoration in the present remnant that survives today.

The River Annick Runs through the area and so adds to the natural surroundings which dominate the North Bourtreehill complex.

The wooded hill-top, a distinctive feature of the estate, is now a landmark that sits at the centre of modern North Bourtreehill in the district of North Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland.

The Kilbirnie Earl of Crawford sought shelter and his father-in-law, Robert Hamilton of Bourtreehill, gave his estate to the distressed family.
