Born Alkibijad Nuša (Aromanian: Alchiviadi al Nuşa) in Belgrade, Principality of Serbia to a well-off family in a house located in Kralja Petra Street that has since been demolished (today, the National Bank of Serbia building is located in that spot).

As an official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he was appointed to clerk of consulate in the Aromanian city of Bitola, where he eventually married (1893).

His father Goerge Nusha (Đorđe Nuša) was a well known grain merchant of Cincar (Aromanian or Vlach) origin who lost his wealth shortly after his son's birth and was forced to move the family to Semedria orSmederevo where young Alkibijad attended elementary school and first two grades of boarding school.

Nušićijada

The festival bears the name of the famous Serbian comedy playwright, Branislav Nušić, who used the sentence "You’re bound for Ivanjica!" as a punchline in his comedies, indicating the 19th century threat of exile to this town.
