Bristol Siddeley

These were for installation in British Rail Class 42 and Class 52 locomotives which were themselves based on licensed German designs but with as much British-built content as possible.

British Rail Class 42

The early withdrawal dates meant that TOPS numbers were never worn, although the Swindon-built locomotives were allocated TOPS Class 42 and the NBL examples Class 43.

Newton Abbot railway station

After the decision to switch to diesel traction, in 1962 the site was completely rebuilt to accommodate diesels, including the Warship Class that were used on the Exeter to Waterloo services.

Torquay railway station

On 25 August 1962, a busy holiday Saturday, a train hauled by a Warship Class diesel stalled while climbing the gradient from Torquay towards Paignton.
