Chai Trong-rong

Chai Trong-rong was born on 13 June 1935, in modern-day Budai, Chiayi County, Taiwan.

David Boon

Boon was the subject of a regular skit on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's comedy show The Late Show in a segment called The Oz Brothers. Played by Santo Cilauro and Rob Sitch, Gavin and Neville Oz were quintessential Aussie cricket fans whose home was adorned with posters of Boon, and who would face Launceston and pray to a Budai statue with Boon's head, chanting "Legend... Legend... Dead-set legend... Top bloke... Top bloke."

Other major attractions include dioramas of scenes from Journey to the West, Fengshen Bang, The Twenty-four Filial Exemplars, Legend of the White Snake, Romance of the Three Kingdoms; statues of mythological figures such as the Laughing Buddha and Guanyin, and historical personages such as Jiang Ziya, Su Wu and Lin Zexu; the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, and others.

The university is within convenient driving distance of many other attractions as well: to the east is the Alishan National Scenic Area of Chiayi, one of the most beautiful mountain districts in the world; to the west are various coastal towns along the Taiwan Strait, such as Budai, Chiayi, which is famous for its fish market; and, to the northwest, on the border with Yunlin County, is the township of Beigang, home to the oldest Mazu Temple in Taiwan, Chaotian Temple.
