5 unusual facts about Buga


Avianca Flight 410

At the time, the crash of Flight 410 held the highest death toll of any aviation accident in Colombia until December 20, 1995 when American Airlines Flight 965 crashed in a mountain near Buga, Valle del Cauca, killing 159 people.

King Philip II of Spain gave Guadalajara de Buga its city status officially at the end of the 16th century and also granted its coat of arms for the many services rendered to the crown.

Laguna de Sonso Nature Reserve

It comprises a series of marshes and lagoons on the east bank of the Cauca River, between the municipalities of Buga, Yotoco and Guacari.
