Both of the branches, typical mountain rivers, of the Bystrytsia river take their sourch in the Gorgany Mountains of the Carpathian mountain range in the Ukrainian province of Ivano-Frankivsk.

Carpathian foothills have two depressions: one is at the confluence of Bystrytsia of Solotvyno, Bystrytsia of Nadvirna, Vorona and Bystrytsia rivers, called Bystrytsia Depression, and another is around the city of Kalush, called Kalush Depression.
