On 11 June 803 Baldwulf attended the consecration of Egbert at Bywell as the new Bishop of Lindisfarne.
It recounts the history of his monastery (possibly at Bywell, or, less probably, Crayke, twelve miles north of York) from its foundation through its six first abbots and ending with Æthelwulf's two visions.
Beaumnont was born at Bywell Hall, Northumberland, the son of Wentworth Beaumont, 1st Baron Allendale, by his first wife Lady Margaret Anne de Burgh, daughter of Ulick de Burgh, 1st Marquess of Clanricarde, and his wife the Honourable Harriet Canning, daughter of George Canning.

Bywell Castle gave its name to a collier which ploughed into the SS Princess Alice on the River Thames in September 1878, sinking her within minutes.
