In his early days Bruner sang in Wayne King's Detroit orchestra, but soon found his way into broadcasting by helping to establish the Toronto-based television station CFTO-TV, which went on the air in 1961.
She grew up in Toronto, where her father, broadcaster Fergie Olver, worked at CFTO-TV for two decades on Toronto Blue Jays telecasts and also co-hosted the game show Just Like Mom created by co-host Catherine Swing and producer Paul Burford, where Carrie often introduced the contestants.
The show was always produced at one of the network's stations other than flagship CFTO Toronto, moving every three to six months.
Uncle Bobby is a Canadian children's television show that aired from 1964 to 1979 on Toronto's CFTO and, for two years, beginning in 1968, as a weekly show on the CTV television network (although it continued to be aired on local CTV stations across Canada thereafter).
