Caltrans leased an additional four bilevel coaches from Chicago's Regional Transportation Authority but these could not be used because they required head end power (HEP) for heating and the SP's locomotives used steam heat, which was not compatible.

They stayed on the commute route (often working in freight service on weekends) until 1985 when Caltrain equipment arrived, and they were placed into freight service until their retirement, initially working out of Roseville, then in local and hauler service in the Los Angeles Basin.
A proposed rail system similar to Caltrain would terminate at this terminal or at a new replacement terminal in San Quentin, to ease traffic gridlock along Highway 101.
Light Rail also serves to connect commuters/travelers to the San Jose International Airport, Diridon Station and the transit systems it serves: (Caltrain, ACE, the Coast Starlight, the Capitol Corridor); and moves LRT riders to and from Silicon Valley, the Greater Bay Area, and beyond.
