Calstock Quay was once important for transporting goods, and in the Victorian era when steamers brought tourists to the village, Calstock was visited by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1846.

East Cornwall Mineral Railway

The line was 7 miles 4 furlongs and 5 chains (12.17 km) long running from Kelly Bray to Calstock.

The trade was limited by the difficulties of conveying the products to market; this was done by pack horse to Calstock, where there was a quay on the tidal River Tamar for onward coast-wise shipping transport.
