In August 1566, in the depressed industrial area around Steenvoorde a rash of attacks on Catholic church property started, in which religious statuary was destroyed by irate Calvinists, for whom those statues contravened the Second Commandment against graven images.
He died and was buried at Mariengaarde but in 1614, to save his relics from the Calvinists, they were removed and taken to Bonne-Espérance Abbey near Estinnes in Belgium, where they were reinterred in 1616 or 1617.
The school existed in 1560-1630, and in that period, Jedlińsk attracted many Scottish Calvinists, who founded a bell for the prayer house (the bell still exists).
In a series of poorly understood events, Stössel advocated the cause of the Dresden Crypto-Calvinists, was denounced before the Elector, and imprisoned in the castle at Senftenberg, where he died, aged 51, after a short illness.

James Bratt has identified a number of different types of Dutch Calvinism: The Seceders—split into the Reformed Church “West” and the Confessionalists; and the Neo-Calvinists—the Positives and the Antithetical Calvinists.
His fidelity to Aquinas likewise rendered him very bitter against Molinism; so much so, in fact, that he succeeded in persuading Gomarist Calvinists, as against the Arminians, to subscribe to the Thomistic doctrine of predestination and reprobation (ad sanam Thomistarum de predestinations et reprobatione doctrinam descenderunt, Proelect., vol. II, diss. 6, n. 242).
He supported his fellow-collegian William Laud, and called on Thomas Sackville, 1st Earl of Dorset, then chancellor of Oxford, and spoke to him in praise of Laud's character and learning, to gather support for Laud's struggles with the Oxford Calvinists.
