One of Eackles' sons, Ledell Eackles Jr., won two state championships at Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge and went on to play college basketball for Campbell College.

In 1922-3 he served as Head of Music at Campbell College, Belfast, and from 1923-4 was the external examiner (degrees) at Trinity College, Dublin, and shortly before his death was lecturer in music at Queen's University, Belfast.
He was educated at eleven different schools in Northern Ireland and New Zealand including Campbell College in Belfast.
It was reported in 1909 that discussions had taken place between Belfast Royal Academy, Campbell College, Methodist College and Royal Belfast Academical Institution about setting up a rugby junior competition for pupils with an age qualification given as under fifteen years of age on 1 November.
