The rise of the Lovers Rock genre in the late seventies and early eighties led to Ellis cutting cover version of several popular soul classics including "Down the Aisle" (Patti Labelle) and "Young Hearts Run Free" (Candi Staton).

The next release by the band was a 7" single on the Melodic Records label, on 19 March 2007. Limited to 500 copies, the double A-side featured "Idiot Check" (recorded at the sessions for A Call And Response) and a cover of the Candi Staton rave track "You Got the Love".
Recorded live at Bishop Andrew Merrit's Straight Gate Church, Winans recorded simple arrangements of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness", Bill Gaither's "Because He Lives" and Candi Staton's "The Blood Rushes".

His influences are largely soul/funk but also include: Eddie Kendricks, Isaac Hayes, Candi Staton, Otis Redding, Elvis Presley, Zapp, The Stylistics, O'Jays, Bill Withers, Lyrics Born, Sparlha Swa, Slave, Midnight Star, Stevie Wonder (pre-1980), Al Green, etc.
The first song to be played on Dream 107.2 was Candi Staton's "Young Hearts Run Free" during Breakfast with Andy Green and the last was The Moody Blues' "Go Now" which was played during Pippa Head's Mid-Morning Show.
The success of the single helped ensure more live opportunities for the Pimptones and promoters drafted the group in to support touring acts such as Maceo Parker, Candi Staton, Youngblood Brass Band and Hot 8 Brass Band.
They also remixed Candi Staton ("Musical Freedom") and compiled the digital compilation, Nocturnal Grooves: Vol. 2 – Mixed by the Shapeshifters as well as working alongside Empire of the Sun and Kleerup remixing "We Are the People" and "Longing for Lullabies".
