Autonous became a Stone Curlew (Greek όκνος, because he "was not in time", όκνησε in Greek, to save Anthus), Hippodamia became a Lark (the bird has a crest which symbolizes her courage) and Acanthis became a thistle finch; others became birds whose Greek names are the same as their personal names were when they were humans.

Its bill, as the name suggests, is longer and thinner than most Carduelis finches.
Altogether, Rhynchostruthus seems to belong to a group of Carduelinae which includes such birds as Carduelis, the Oriole Finch (Linurgus olivaceus), and the canaries, many of which have large amounts of brilliant yellow plumage.

The large bill suggests a relationship with the Asian grosbeaks - e.g. Mycerobas - but its song and calls are reminiscent of European Goldfinch Carduelis carduelis, European Greenfinch C. chloris, and Yemen Linnet C. yemenensis.
The Trias Greenfinch (Carduelis triasi) is an extinct passerine from the family of Finches (Fringillidae).
Yarrell has a number of species named after him, including the birds Yellow-faced Siskin Carduelis yarrellii and Chilean Woodstar Eulidia yarrellii and the fish Yarrell's Blenny Chirolophis ascanii.
