The station was opened on 18 April 1868, upon the inauguration of the Casalduni–Benevento section of the Naples–Foggia railway.
On 14 August 1861, together with Pontelandolfo, it was the seat of a massacre by the Piedmontese occupation troops as a revenge for the killing of 45 military soldiers, allegedly made by brigands.
