Casey's brother is filmmaker Kelly Candaele, whose PBS documentary about the AAGPBL led to the creation of the 1992 film A League of Their Own directed by Penny Marshall.
She grew up in a home where baseball was considered of vital importance, as her younger sister Helen teamed up with her in the AAGPBL and her nephew Casey Candaele played in Major League Baseball.
In addition, Casey Candaele, former Houston Astros infielder and son of AAGPBL star Helen Callaghan, introduced her for induction into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.
