2 unusual facts about Cavaquinho

Cavaquinho

Some of the most important players and composers of the instrument's Brazilian incarnation are: Waldir Azevedo, Henrique Cazes, Paulinho da Viola, Luciana Rabello, Alceu Maia, Mauro Diniz and Paulinho Soares.

The most common tuning is D-G-B-D (from lower to higher pitches); other tunings include D-A-B-E (Portuguese ancient tuning, made popular by Júlio Pereira) and G-G-B-D and A-A-C#-E.

Almir Guineto

His records have a particular samba sound that became trademarked as Almir's, frequently with strong use of the banjo, and with Mauro Diniz often being responsible for the cavaquinho.

Mauro Diniz

Mauro has recorded with all major samba names; his recordings with Almir Guineto are specially known for cavaquinho rhythm virtuosism; not the least, his recordings with Zeca Pagodinho and Beth Carvalho are registered as the foundation for new generations of sambistas.

Novos Baianos

The group always counted with the collaboration of the band A Cor do Som, composed by Pepeu Gomes (guitar), Dadi (bass), Jorginho (cavaquinho, drums and percussion), Baixinho (drums and percussion) and Bolacha (percussion).
