3 unusual facts about Ceefax

The first system employed a modified Muirhead drum facsimile transmitter, and hard-copy printer using pressure-sensitive "till-roll" paper passing over a drum with a raised helix of steel wire.

Duncan Shearer

In his autobiography 11 years later, Adams revealed that he had followed the progress of the game on Ceefax and mistakingly believed that the Shearer who scored a hat-trick against Arsenal was Duncan Shearer.

Roy Essandoh

Upon his return followed the highlight of his career when, somewhat extraordinarily, Essandoh's agent responded to an appeal on Ceefax by Wycombe Wanderers manager Lawrie Sanchez looking for a fit, non-cup-tied striker and later went on to secure an FA Cup semi-final appearance at the expense of Leicester City by scoring a last-minute winning header after coming on as a late substitute at Leicester's Filbert Street ground.
