5 April - Census (UK): Results reveal that the percentage of Welsh language speakers has fallen to an all-time low of 18.9% of the Welsh population and Gwynedd is the only Welsh county with a Welsh-speaking majority.
Public access to individual census returns in England and Wales is normally restricted under the terms of the 100-year rule (Lord Chancellor's Instrument no.12, issued in 1966 under S.5 (1) of the Public Records Act 1958); until recently, returns made available to researchers were those of the 1901 Census.
The 1891 Census records Neill working as an accountant and lodging in the St Botolph's parish of Lincoln, in the household of former Lincoln City footballer Jack Strawson, also an accountant.
