It was co-founded in 1983 by the late Admiral Hyman G. Rickover and Joann P. DiGennaro, President of the Center for Excellence in Education.
He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Society for Science & the Public (SSP) and of the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), and he has participated in the Distinguished Lecture Series at CEE's flagship program for high school students, the Research Science Institute (RSI).
Two of his favorite non-profit organizations were the Center for Excellence in Education, founded by the late Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, and the United Negro College Fund.
Ketterle serves on the Board of Trustees of the Center for Excellence in Education (CEE), and participates in the Distinguished Lecture Series of CEE's flagship program for high school students, the Research Science Institute (RSI), which Ketterle's own son Jonas attended in 2003.
