Born in southeastern Bangladesh and a member of the Chakma ethnic minority, he moved away from his tribe to study chemical engineering at Algerian Petroleum Institute in Algeria.
The inhabitants of the district are mainly the ethnic groups of tribals like Lai and Chakma, who are among the minor tribal communities of Mizoram.
Most of the Buddhists of Chittagong Hill Tracts belong to the Chakma, Chak, Marma, Tanchungya and the Khyang, who since time immemorial have practiced Buddhism.
It flows through the villages of Boiragi, Chakma, Yachakrai, Kutna Kami and the town of Borokathal.
