Charles Gavan Duffy (1816–1903), Irish and Australian editor, politician, and jurist
He was the author of A Remonstrance (Dublin, 1886), which was addressed to Sir Charles Gavan Duffy, in reply to his attack on Sir William Shee, in a book entitled The League of the North and South.
In July 1876, the Mechanics' Institutes Trust received the land, believed to be a donation from local landowner, parliamentarian and 8th Premier of Victoria, Sir Charles Gavan Duffy.
William Arthur Callendar à Beckett (1833–1901) eldest son of Sir William à Beckett, was in the Legislative Council of Victoria from 1868 to 1876, and held office without portfolio in the Administration of Sir Charles Gavan Duffy from June 1871 to 10 June 1872.

He held office as Commissioner of Railways and Vice-President of the Board of Land and Works under Charles Gavan Duffy from June 1871 to June 1872, and was Minister of Lands under Graham Berry from August to October 1875.
