Cheranallur used to be a very busy ferry in NH17 but the opening of the bridge called Varapuzha Bridge has negated the importance of the place.
The Varapuzha bridge on NH 17 is a cantilever bridge spanning the Periyar river between Varapuzha and Cheranallur.
