The population grew further until the Cherokee Outlet in northern Oklahoma was opened by a Land run in 1893, at which point many people moved south to that territory.
Following her term as mayor, Salter and her family continued to live in Argonia, until 1893 when her husband acquired land on the Cherokee Strip in Alva, Oklahoma.
When the Cherokee Outlet was opened to settlement on September 16, 1893, Jenkins made the race and secured a homestead in Kay County where he would continue to practice law untli he entered government service.
