It is joined by Rapid Creek, passes Wasta and is joined by the Belle Fourche River in eastern Meade County, after which it flows ENE along the southern boundary of the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation.
Born in the spring of 1840 on the headwaters of the Cheyenne River near the Black Hills, He Dog was the son of a headman named Black Stone and his wife, Blue Day, a sister of Red Cloud.
He also served as the treasurer of the Richards-Coombs Co., which operated a sheep ranch south of Douglas, and treasurer of the Chambers Live Stock Co., which operated a ranch on the Cheyenne River in Weston County, Wyoming.
The skull was collected by the American Museum Expedition of 1892 from exposures near the Cheyenne River in Niobrara County.

Faith is located in the West River region of South Dakota, that part of the state located west of the Missouri River, and in the Northern Great Plains, on a ridge dividing the Cheyenne River to the south and the Grand River and its major tributary, the Moreau River to the north (both are tributaries of the Missouri).
The village is located near the Cheyenne River but outside the Special Flood Hazard Area (100-year floodplain) of the river.
