After recording sessions in Morin Heights (north of Montreal) and Hollywood, Chicago 13 - which saw the band return to numbering their albums with their trademark name logo - was released that August and was preceded by Donnie Dacus' "Must Have Been Crazy" as lead single - a track that couldn't have been further removed from Chicago's well-known sound.

After the commercial and critical disappointment of Chicago 13, and the departure of guitarist Donnie Dacus, Chicago decided that a new strategy was in order.
In 2012, McClellin became a partner with Allstate and Give Your Sole, and attended the Chicago 13.1 Marathon on June 9 to encourage runners to donate athletic shoes.
