The Thing Around Your Neck is a short story collection by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, it was first published in April 2009 by Fourth Estate in the UK and by Knopf in the US.
The most prominent writer to emerge from the workshop is Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie whose Orange Prize winning novel Half of a Yellow Sun began as a short story that was workshopped on the site.
It has featured the works of Wole Soyinka, Segun Afolabi, Uche James Iroha, Funmi Iyanda, Dinaw Mengestu, Barbara Murray, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jackee Budesta Batanda, Helon Habila, Tosin Oshinowo, Patrice Nganang, Jide Alakija, and a plethora of other writers and graphical artists.

The magazine has been guest-edited by Olajide Bello, Okey Ndibe, Molara Wood, Toni Kan, Uzodinma Iweala, Petina Gappah, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Laila Lalami.

Critically acclaimed writers of a younger generation include Chris Abani, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Sefi Atta, Helon Habila, Helen Oyeyemi, Nnedi Okorafor, Kachi A. Ozumba, Sarah Ladipo Manyika, Chika Unigwe, Ayo Sogunro, and Wol-vriey.
The collection was put together by Nigerian writers, Ovo Adagha and Molara Wood, and includes stories by notable authors, such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Jhumpa Lahiri as well as many up-and-coming writers such as Petina Gappah, winner of the 2009 Guardian First Book Award, and Elaine Chiew, a recipient of the Bridport Prize.
