KSTU includes 11 associated branch institutes outside Kazan in the towns of Almetevsk, Bugulma, Chistopol, Elabuga, Leninogorsk, Naberezhnye Chelny, Nizhnekamsk, Volzhsk, Vyatskie Polyany, Zainsk, and Zelenodolsk.
Initially, the territory of the ASSR was divided into ten kantons - Sviyazhsk, Tetyushi, Buinsk, Spassk, Chistopol, Menzelinsk, Bugulma, Arsk, Laishevo, and Mamadysh.
There were 7,272 settlements, including 13 towns: Kazan, Arsk, Sviyazhsk, Kozmodemyansk, Laishev, Mamadysh, Spassk, Tetyushi, Tsaryovokokshaysk, Tsivilsk, Cheboksary, Chistopol, Yadrin; and two posads: Mariinsky Posad and Troitsky Posad.
The Vostok Company was founded in 1942 when one of the Moscow watch-making plants of the First Moscow Watch Factory was evacuated to Chistopol, a small town located on the Kama River in Tatarstan.
