Chitral District

The Norwegian linguist Georg Morgenstierne wrote that Chitral is the area of the greatest linguistic diversity in the world.

It shares a border with Gilgit-Baltistan to the east, with Afghnistans Kunar, Badakshan and Nuristan provinces to the north and west, and with Swat and Dir to the south.

Parnassius epaphus

This handsome butterfly is found from 9,000 to 13,000 ft from Chitral District to Sikkim and Western regions of Nepal.

Parnassius hardwickii

This butterfly is found from the Chitral District to Sikkim and is found from 6000 ft to 17,000 ft, making it one of the most commonly encountered species of Apollo in the Indian subcontinent.
