On August 19, 2007, he was traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for running back/returner Corey Holmes and receiver Chris Getzlaf.
Getzlaf started skating at the age of four and grew up playing numerous sports with his older brother Chris, who is a slotback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
