2 unusual facts about Chuck Schilling

Chuck Schilling

After playing for Boston's Triple-A Minneapolis Millers farm team in 1960, Schilling broke into the major leagues in 1961, the same year as his friend and fellow Long Islander, eventual Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski.

He was still the Red Sox's regular second baseman in 1963, but hit .234 in 143 games and lost his regular job to Felix Mantilla and Dalton Jones in 1964, both good hitters but mediocre-at-best fielders.
