Clairac is the birthplace of the 17th century poet and dramatist Théophile de Viau and of François de Labat.

Jacques Pucheran (2 June 1817 - 13 January 1895) was a French zoologist born in Clairac.

Théophile de Viau

Born at Clairac, near Agen in the Lot-et-Garonne and raised as a Huguenot, Théophile de Viau participated in the Protestant wars in Guyenne from 1615–16 in the service of the Comte de Candale.


José María Lamamié de Clairac

Following the defeat of the CEDA in the elections of February 1936 and the victory of the Popular Front the Traditionalists took this for the CEDA's death knell - Traditionalist deputies severed their connections with both the CEDA and Calvo Sotelo's Bloque Nacional to form an independent grouping under the leadership of José María Lamamié de Clairac.
