In that match, the unbeaten partnership of 163 between Colin Cowdrey (128*, coming in down the batting order at number 8) and Alan Smith (69*) for the ninth wicket in England's first innings set a world record which stood until 1967, when Pakistan's Asif Iqbal and Intikhab Alam reached 190 for the ninth wicket.

During the late 60's "I'm Backing Britain" campaign, Eddie patriotically decorated his sports shop with a centre piece window display proclaiming "I'm Backing Cowdrey", a reference to the Test Match being contested between England and Australia at the time where the England Captain was Colin Cowdrey, another lifelong friend.
In August 1975 a benefit match was held for the then Club Professional, Salahuddin, and those taking part included Colin Cowdrey, Mike Denness, Intikhab Alam, Majid Khan, Asif Iqbal and Sir Garfield Sobers.
