The 2011 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 NCAA Division I teams that did not participate in the 2011 NCAA Tournament nor the 2011 National Invitation Tournament.
The 2009 CollegeInsider.com Tournament was the second new postseason tournament since the Collegiate Commissioners Association Tournament folded in 1974, following the College Basketball Invitational's debut in 2008.

On March 17, Purdue accepted a CBI bid, where Painter continued the 2013 season at home against Western Illinois, following with a loss to Santa Clara to finish the season with a 16-18 overall record.
